Black Dawg's first studio album has the weight and precision of a band that has been together for many years. They traffic in driving beats and guitar riffs that give their songs staying power. There are moments on this album for toe tapping. There are soulful tunes that build and flatten and build again. There is a sad and stripped down breakup song. But it's the rhythm and the riffs that pull you through, and by the time you reach the record's lone cover song, you won't be surprised to find a Led Zeppelin tune, because Zeppelin's influence is all over this inaugural effort.
